On the cliff with an unspoiled view over the ocean and adjacent to Walker Bay Nature Reserve, you will find the beautiful Villa the Cherry. After I wrote some messages with the owners Annick and Björn via Instagram they invited me to have a closer look and enjoy some unforgettable days in their luxurious beach villa. It was the best way to end our trip in South Africa and we had the best time in their dream villa.
The Villa
The three bedroom villa is located right on the cliff with unspoiled views over the ocean and adjacent to Walker Bay Nature Reserve and perfect to accommodate six people. You have sun and shadow all day, spectacular sea views in front, silence all over and stars all night. The three bedrooms, each with soft king size beds and own bathroom are lovely designed and you will find everything you need. A large fully equipped kitchen is perfect for cooking together and enjoying a peaceful dinner with a spectacular view above the ocean. There is also a large pool and outdoor shower to enjoy warm summer days and a barbecue place for an evening with friends. The villa has direct access to ‘Die Plaat’ Nature Reserve and is near the village of Gansbaai for supplies, including many excellent restaurants, golf courses and wine farms to visit.
The surrounding area
The Villa is located next to Walker Bay, a coastal nature reserve in the south-western Cape, just east of Hermanus. The area stretches from Klein River to De Kelders at Gansbaai. Die Plaat is the area’s white sandy beach, with rocky limestone outcrops and the occasional southern right whale offshore. The scenic Klein River lagoon, north-west of the reserve, flows into the sea at times. Walker Bay is also historically significant, with records of Middle Stone Age people (65 000 to 85 000 years ago) living in Klipgat Cave. There is also evidence that Khoi and San people lived in the area about 2 000 years ago. Walker Bay is a picturesque, pristine reserve with an abundance of coastal and marine life. It is known as one of the best spots in South Africa to do land-based whale watching. Every year, hundreds of southern right whales gather in the sheltered bay to breed and calve their young.

How to get to Villa the Cherry
Like everywhere in South Africa the best way to get there is by car. You can rent a car from around 15 € a day in Cape Town and then you will need about 2 hours to get to the Villa. That’s why I would recommend staying there for at least 3-4 nights. You can book your stay here.
