As I already mentioned in my travel post before we went to the Gili Islands. Well the Gili Islands are Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno – and we were on two of them. We’ve been to Gili Air and Gili Meno, but I heared a lot about Gili Trawangan that’s why I will share my thoughts and tips with you. Some facts are on all of the islands the same, like they don’t have streets or any motorized vehicles.
First we’ve been to Gili Air. A very small island next to Lombok. This Island is popular for Honeymoon travelers, but also highly recommended if you’re looking for some really calm and relaxing days. You can just walk around the island in 1 hour and you definitely should do that. Also you can spot a very beautiful sunset on Gili Air. Stop by one of the nice beach cafés and drink a cold Bintang. A very beautiful island. A very nice restaurant was the Pura Vida, located on the east side. You have to go there and try the Pitaya Juice. 😉
After 3 days on Gili Air we’ve been to Gili Meno. Another very small island (the smallest of the three) where you can find some time just to relax and enjoy the amazing nature. In general the nature on the island is almost untouchable. There is no doctor or any kind of authorities on Gili Meno. So if you feel sick you should go to the village elder or immediately back to Lombok or Bali. I guess Gili Meno is the calmest island of the three and also perfect for diving or snorkeling tours.
We didn’t made it to Gili Trawangan, but I heared a lot about that island. It is more the “Party-Island” of the three. So if you’re looking for more night activities you should choose this island.
How to get to the Gili Islands? The best way is to take one of the fast boats from Bali Padang Bai or Serangan Harbor. We took the fast boat via Gili Getaway and I can recommend you this transfer service. It’s not that expensive and in their boat price is a pick up and drop up service included. Btw try to sit upstairs – the 2 hours boat trip will be very funny. 😉
If you need some more information feel free to ask me in the comments.
